Chocolate Buttercream Icing

This chocolate buttercream is smooth and creamy and very easy to make. Its chocolaty but not too sweet and there's always  competition in my house on who gets to lick the spoon.
Makes 4 cups of icing

What you need:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups of sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbs of cocoa powder
  • 4-6  tbs milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  1. With the paddle attachment on your stand mixer, cream the butter and vanilla together until smooth. This takes about 1 minutes.
  2. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and begin adding the powdered sugar one cup at a time, using a silicone spatula scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3.  Add the cocoa powder one spoonful at a time, continue to scrape the bowl as needed.
  4. Add the milk one tablespoon at a time. 
  5. Add salt and mix until well blended.
